Prerequisites & Basics

Use WEDA Console to connect your first edge device and deploy an application. This Getting Started path uses a device running WEDA Node and a container-based application as the initial deployment example.

What You Will Accomplish

Follow this path to your first deployment:

  1. Prepare access: Sign in to WEDA Console and prepare your edge device.
  2. Onboard your device: Register and activate it, then check its connection and telemetry.
  3. Deploy your first application: Deploy a container stack and inspect its runtime status.

These steps establish your first deployment, providing a starting point for ongoing device and application management.

What You Need

Note: Plan resources for your applications

The WEDA Node minimum requirements cover WEDA Node itself. Size your complete solution for the operating system, required platform SDKs and the applications you plan to run, including their container images, model files, logs and data. Check each application's hardware and software requirements, and reserve additional storage for installation and updates.

Prepare the following before onboarding:

  • WEDA account: Access to your WEDA environment and permission to manage the devices and deployments used in this guide. If you do not have an account, use the Request WEDA Access form to contact Advantech about access.
  • WEDA Console URL: The address provided by your WEDA administrator. The format and an example are shown below.
  • Supported edge device: Check WEDA Certified Hardware: WEDA Edge for hardware and system information.
  • WEDA Node: If your Advantech device does not have WEDA Node installed, check its compatibility and download a matching package from WEDA Node Activator Installer. Follow the WEDA Node Installation Guide for installation.
  • Device access: Terminal access to run WEDA Node Activator for device information and activation.
  • Network connectivity: Your browser can reach WEDA Console. Your device can reach WEDA Cloud and the container registry used for deployment. For the required outbound ports, see System Requirements in the WEDA Node Installation Guide.

If WEDA Node is already installed, continue with the registration and activation steps in Onboard Your Device.

You will prepare the application image, container registry information and Docker Compose file in Deploy an Application.

Sign In to WEDA Console

The Console URL follows this structure:

https://<weda-domain>/<tenant>/weda

For example:

https://tpe.cloud.advantech.com/central/weda
Note: Your environment URL

Use the WEDA domain and tenant path provided for your environment. The /weda suffix opens WEDA Console. The address above is an example; your assigned domain and tenant may differ.

  1. Open the WEDA Console URL provided for your environment.
  2. Sign in with your WEDA account.
  3. Open Organizations to check your access.

Check the result: You can sign in and access the organization you will use, or have permission to create one.

WEDA Console Home after sign-in, showing version V1.2.0 and the Organizations entry in the left navigation.
After signing in, open Organizations to begin onboarding.

Contact your WEDA administrator if you do not have the URL or cannot access the required organization.

Once you can sign in and access the prepared edge device, continue to Onboard Your Device to select or create an organization and register the device.
